• South African Food Security & Development Agency is implementing and supporting the HFNS program, with the department of Social Development driving the program.

• The program proposes for more coherent and robust responses to food and nutrition insecurity with the establishment of a larger network of Food Distribution Centres, distributing food to food insecure areas that have been statistically profiled as areas living under the poverty line. This is done through CNDCs in KZN.

• CNDCs are Community Nutrition and Development Centres where profiled individuals who are living under the poverty line go to get a nutritiously balanced plate of food from Monday to Friday at 12:00 -15:00. Along with the place is a fruit and a glass of water or more. Each CNDC is equipped to feed a minimum of 250 beneficiaries, currently there are 50 centres which then means +- 12 500 meals daily, 62 500 meals weekly and 250 000 meals monthly.
